MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s prosecutor general has opened a criminal inquiry into Turkish Airlines’ station manager in Mogadishu after receiving a complaint from a well-known local content creator who alleges he was arbitrarily denied boarding and mistreated earlier this month.
The prosecutor general’s office said the complaint, filed against station manager Turahan Kenmen, accuses him of violating the constitutional rights of Abdifatah Ahmed Hussein, widely known online as Somali Gamer. Hussein alleges he was blocked from boarding his scheduled Turkish Airlines flight, subjected to humiliating treatment and denied both a refund and an alternative booking.
Prosecutors said investigators are examining the case and intend to forward it to a court once their review is complete. Authorities described the allegations as serious and said the conduct reported by Hussein, if confirmed, would constitute an abuse of power by an airline official operating on Somali territory.
Additional complaints have surfaced during the inquiry, including from Abdi Addow, a member of Somalia’s electoral commission. Addow reported being prevented from boarding a Turkish Airlines flight at Mogadishu’s Aden Adde International Airport without explanation. Addow alleged that Kenmen routinely exercises excessive authority over passengers and disregards objections raised by Somali officials attempting to intervene.
The investigation will assess whether Kenmen misused his position to intimidate or mistreat passengers and whether his actions breached Somalia’s aviation regulations or broader legal protections afforded to travelers. Officials said further information will be released once the probe concludes.
Turkish Airlines has not publicly commented on the allegations.
