MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Al-Shabaab spokesman said on Thursday that a power struggle between Somalia’s President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo and his Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble exposed the inefficiencies of democracy, accusing the Horn of Africa country’s Western partners of pitting Somali leaders against each other.

In a new audio released by the militant group, Ali Dhere blamed Western diplomats in Somalia for the current standoff and accused Somali leaders of being motivated by personal interests towards securing illicit financial gains.

The audio message comes a week after Somali Prime Minister said he had survived a coup attempt allegedly orchestrated by the President, marking an escalation of weeks-long tensions that boiled over following an attempted suspension of the Premier.
