
MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – At least 9 soldiers were killed after a roadside bomb explosion ripped through a convoy of senior army commander near Somalia’s capital Mogadishu, Caasimada Online news website reported on Saturday.
The blast hit a military vehicle with a convoy of army commander General Saney Abdulle on the road linking Mogadishu to Jowhar, the administrative capital of Hirshabelle regional state. The military officer escaped the attack.
Saney wounded in a suicide bombing attack on army base in June last year after which he was flown to Turkey for medical treatment. At least 9 soldiers were killed in the explosion and many more wounded, sources were quoted as saying by Caasimada news website. Wounded soldiers have been rushed to hospitals in Mogadishu for treatment.
The military officer was heading to the town of Jowhar as the attack occurred, where an election for a disputed parliament seat belonging to his clan is expected to be held.
