Close ally of Somalia’s president named new spy chief

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – A close ally of Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud was named as the country’s new director of the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) on Thursday.

Abdullahi Mohamed Ali Sanbalolshe, who played a pivotal role in mobilizing clans in central Somalia against the Islamist insurgency group Al-Shabaab, will replace Mahad Mohamed Salad who has been holding the position for the last two years.

Salad is running in upcoming presidential election in the central region of Galmudug, enjoying the full support of Somali President whose administration exerting more efforts to oust current regional leader Ahmed Abdi Kariye Qoorqoor, who was brought to office by the government of former President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo.
