MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Djibouti has announced the closure of Somaliland’s liaison office in the country, citing the breakaway region’s recognition by Israel as a violation of international law, Shabelle TV reported on Wednesday.
The Horn of Africa nation said the decision followed inconsistencies in Somaliland’s foreign policy and its pursuit of recognition from Israel, which it formally received on Friday. Djibouti described the move as contravening international law.

Djibouti, whose President Ismail Omar Guelleh is a close ally of Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, was among the countries that strongly opposed Israel’s recognition and raised its objections at the UN Security Council on Monday.
In response, Somaliland confirmed on Wednesday that it had recalled its ambassador to Djibouti, describing the action as “part of ongoing diplomatic engagements and in line with established diplomatic practice.”
