Election official says has confidence that Somalia presidential vote will take place on May 15

Somalia presidential vote

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Chairman of a parliamentary committee tasked with the organization of an upcoming presidential election said on Friday he had confidence that the vote would be held on May 15 despite increasing number of candidates vying for the country’s top office.

In an interview with BBC Somali, Abdikani Geelle said the vote could be held within 10 days and members of his team are ready to work hard to ensure their ultimate goals in finalizing the process on time, adding that both international and Somali dignitaries will attend the event expected to be held at the heavily fortified Afisyoni air force base in Mogadishu.

The official said they are planning to bring an end to an escalating row over MPs chosen in parallel processes in Elwak and Garbaharey towns in Gedo region, which had earlier disrupted parliamentary sessions and brought an election for the speaker of parliament to brink of failure.
