Ex-president Sharif questions whether peaceful power transfer will happen again in Somalia

Somalia

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Former President of Somalia Sharif Sheikh Ahmed launched a sharp rebuke against President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Saturday, asserting that while they have no interest in contesting the remainder of the current administration’s term, they strongly oppose the rampant embezzlement of public funds and the flagrant disregard for the rule of law.

Accompanied by opposition MP Abdirahman Abdishakur, Sharif lamented that the nation has reached a critical juncture, where the prospect of a peaceful transfer of power is now in question. He emphasized that only through inclusive, wide-ranging consultations can the situation be rectified.

In a resolute warning, Sharif warned that should the current administration continue down its corrupt and unconstitutional path, they would rally the public to convene consultations focused on rescuing the nation from its perilous course.
