MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – An explosion struck Mogadishu early Friday, targeting a senior commander within the Somali police leadership for health services, identified as Abdirizak Afgadud, Universal Somali TV reported.
The blast was caused by an improvised explosive device attached to the officer’s vehicle. The device detonated while he was not inside the car, according to witnesses and Somali security officials.
Authorities said there were no casualties. Security officials also denied reports that the explosion occurred inside a government headquarters, clarifying that the attack targeted the vehicle.
Security forces quickly cordoned off the area and launched an investigation into the incident. No group has claimed responsibility.
