MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Polling stations in Somaliland closed Wednesday evening after a full day of voting in the region’s highly anticipated presidential election. Voters cast their ballots to either re-elect incumbent President Muse Bihi Abdi, the candidate for the Kulmiye Party, or to choose one of his two rivals: Abdirahman Abdillahi Irro of the Waddani Party, or Faysal Ali Warabe of the UCID Party.
Somaliland’s independent election commission announced that the final election results will be announced within seven days, with preliminary district and regional tallies to be released within the next two days.
The presidential contenders have vowed to honor the election outcome and concede, should they be unsuccessful.
