MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Puntland leader Saeed Abdullahi Deni said on Sunday that no one is refusing dialogue, but criticized President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s planned meeting as an attempt to mislead the international community. Deni called for a genuine and inclusive dialogue that results in outcomes agreeable to all parties.
Deni emphasized that the President should convene a meeting including all of the country’s political stakeholders to build a broad-based consensus on contentious issues, rather than holding a consultative conference where only limited ideas are considered before proceeding with controversial plans.
In strong remarks, the Puntland leader warned that no individual can single-handedly hijack the country’s future. He urged Mogadishu to stop attempts to undermine regional states and their people, especially those with differing political views, calling instead for negotiations to resolve disputes amicably.
These remarks came on the same day that President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s meeting with opposition leaders failed to commence after the opposition refused to attend, citing the absence of regional state leaders.
