MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – All 55 passengers and crew members were safe Tuesday after a passenger aircraft overran the runway at Mogadishu’s Adan Adde International Airport, authorities said.
The aircraft, a Fokker 50 operated by the local airline StarSky, had reported technical problems shortly after departing Mogadishu on a scheduled flight to Galkayo. The crew requested permission to return, and the plane was cleared to land.
As the aircraft came down, panic spread on board, and the plane failed to stop within the runway limits. It continued past the tarmac, went over a cliff and came to rest on the shoreline below the airport.
No injuries were reported, and all those on board were safely evacuated.
