MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s federal government on Sunday omitted the United Arab Emirates – with which it severed ties in January – from a statement condemning Iran’s retaliatory attacks on Gulf countries.
In a statement issued by the Foreign Ministry, Mogadishu mentioned Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, Bahrain, Jordan, and Kuwait but made no reference to the UAE, offering no explanation for the omission.
Somalia cut all diplomatic relations with Abu Dhabi in January, citing infringements on its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Just hours later, Somalia issued a separate statement addressing Iran’s attacks on the UAE, condemning the strikes and highlighting Abu Dhabi in particular.
Somalia affirmed that the targeted Gulf states have the right to defend themselves and called for restraint to prevent further turmoil and safeguard regional stability.
