MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s army on Tuesday received new batch of weapons from the United States, weeks after joint operations against the Al-Qaeda-linked Al-Shabaab militants began in the central regions of the war-torn country.
Somali Minister of Defense Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur said he had received a shipment of US-donated weapons aimed at helping Somali government forces fight rebels.
The weapons are meant for US-trained Danab special forces, who have been leading military operations aimed at dislodging rebels from a number of villages and towns in the central states of Galmudug and Hirshabelle. US and Turkish drones have also been taking part in the offensive operations.
