MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s opposition leaders on Sunday cautiously welcomed a national dialogue conference called by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud for June 15, while laying out key conditions for their participation, including clarity on the agenda and scope of discussions.
In a joint statement, the National Salvation Forum — a coalition comprising former presidents, prime ministers, and parliamentary speakers — said the conference must be genuinely inclusive and attended equally by representatives from all federal member states and the opposition.
The forum underscored the need for the talks to address long-standing disputes over constitutional amendments and the electoral framework, both at the federal and regional levels, which have repeatedly sparked political deadlock and delayed governance reforms.
The presidency has not yet responded to the opposition’s conditions. The June 15 dialogue is seen as a critical attempt to ease political tensions and revive consensus on national priorities ahead of upcoming electoral cycles.
