MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud arrived in Doha on Sunday to attend an emergency Arab-Islamic summit convened in response to a recent Israeli attack in Qatar that left six people dead, including a Qatari security officer.
President Mohamud and his delegation were received by senior Qatari officials upon arrival in the capital, where leaders from the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) are gathering to discuss a collective response.
The summit follows a deadly incident last week in which Israeli air force reportedly struck a target within Qatari territory – an action that has drawn widespread condemnation across the Arab and Muslim world.
Somalia was among the first countries to denounce the attack, describing it as a blatant violation of Qatar’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and an act of naked aggression.
According to Qatar-based broadcaster Al Jazeera, leaders at the summit are expected to announce a set of concrete measures against Israel, in what is likely to be a rare unified response from the Arab and Islamic world.
The emergency meeting underscores growing regional outrage over Israel’s actions, which have added new dimensions to an already volatile geopolitical landscape in the Middle East.
