MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s opposition leaders met on Thursday for the second time in weeks with President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, aiming to resolve key political disputes, particularly over the upcoming elections.
The meeting follows a gathering held just a day earlier, where opposition figures, led by former President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, convened in the capital, Mogadishu, to align on issues they planned to present to the president.
Jubaland President Ahmed Madobe also participated in the discussions virtually via Zoom. Madobe, who has had strained relations with the federal government, expressed readiness to engage in dialogue with authorities in Mogadishu.
While details of the outcomes remain unclear, the talks are expected to continue in the coming days, with hopes of easing tensions and paving the way for a more inclusive electoral process.
