MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has arrived in Djibouti to attend the 25th anniversary of the Arta Reconciliation Conference, a landmark event that paved the way for the re-establishment of Somalia’s government following the collapse of Siad Barre’s regime in 1991.
The commemoration, hosted by Djibouti’s President Ismail Omar Guelleh, marks a pivotal moment in Somali history when, in 2000, political leaders, elders and civil society representatives convened in Arta to lay the foundation for Somalia’s transitional government after nearly a decade of civil conflict.
President Mohamud was accompanied by senior government ministers, officials and members of the presidential office. He was preceded in Djibouti by members of parliament, cabinet ministers and other state representatives. Delegations from Somalia’s federal member states, as well as opposition figures, are also attending the event, reflecting its broad national significance.
