HARGEISA (Somaliguardian) – Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi Irro held a phone call Sunday with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to discuss regional security as Iran’s war spreads across the Middle East, the Somaliland Foreign Ministry said.
“President Abdirahman Irro held a phone call with PM Netanyahu to discuss regional security,” the ministry said in a statement posted on X.
“The President expressed #Somaliland’s concerns regarding recent developments, emphasizing that the protection of civilians must remain the absolute priority.”
Somaliland earlier condemned Iran’s retaliatory strikes on U.S. bases in Gulf countries, including the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.
Hargeisa is an ally of Israel. Israel became the first country last year to recognize the independence of the northern Somalia breakaway region and plans to host an Israeli military base there, despite threats from Yemen’s Houthi rebels and Al-Shabaab insurgents to designate the region a legitimate target if it proceeds.
