Turkey to restart training for Somalia’s special police unit

Somalia

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Turkey will start training for Somalia’s special police unit Haram’ad, years after it had stopped the program, the head of foreign affairs for Turkish police said on Tuesday during a visit to the capital Mogadishu.

A delegation led by the head of foreign affairs for Turkish police arrived in Mogadishu, receiving a warm reception from the deputy commander of Somali police Zakiya Hussein Ahmed.

The Turkish officials said that their government is committed to helping Somalia safeguard its security, and prevent both internal and external threats to the ongoing state-building initiatives.

Turkey currently trains and equips Somali army’s Gorgor special forces, who are currently participating in stalled offensive against Al-Shabaab insurgents in the central states of Hirshabelle and Galmudug.
