US confirms Somalia’s UN ambassador linked to healthcare company convicted of Medicaid fraud

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – The United States government has confirmed that Somalia’s ambassador to the United Nations, Abukar Osman, who is currently serving as president of the UN Security Council, is associated with a healthcare company previously found to have been involved in Medicaid fraud.

“I can confirm public speculation that Ambassador Abukar Dahir Osman, Permanent Representative of Somalia to the UN and President of the Security Council, is in fact associated with Progressive Health Care Services, a home health agency in Cincinnati,” Deputy Secretary of US Health and Human Services Jim O’Neill said on Tuesday in a statement on X.

“HHS has previously taken action against Progressive in response to a conviction for Medicaid fraud.”

The confirmation follows online speculation that the Somali ambassador was running multiple healthcare services in the United States.

The allegations gained traction after Mr Osman confronted Israel’s deputy representative at the UN Security Council last month, where he strongly defended Somalia’s unity and territorial integrity following Israel’s recognition of the breakaway region of Somaliland.
