WASHINGTON (Somaliguardian) – The Senate Foreign Relations Committee on Tuesday voiced deep concern over reports of a United Arab Emirates-linked training hub for Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militias in Ethiopia, as well as alleged supply routes through Somaliland.
“I am concerned about reports of a UAE-linked training hub for genocidal RSF thugs in Ethiopia with possible supply routes via Somaliland,” the chairman of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee Jim Risch said in a statement posted on X. “These moves would be escalatory and further reason to designate the RSF as an FTO, bringing consequences for this regional proxy support.”
The statement follows months of reports alleging that the United Arab Emirates has used the ports of Bosaso and Berbera in northern Somalia, along with their airports, to facilitate the movement of weapons and mercenaries intended for deployment to Sudan. The assistance is said to benefit the RSF, which is battling Sudan’s government in a conflict marked by allegations of genocide and other grave crimes against humanity.
The RSF has been implicated in widespread atrocities during Sudan’s ongoing war, drawing mounting international scrutiny. The committee’s remarks signal growing concern in Washington over what it described as potential regional proxy support that could further destabilize an already volatile conflict.
