Somalia’s govt issues security alert over elevated risk of militant attacks in Mogadishu

Somalia

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s government on Friday issued a security alert over elevated risk of Al-Shabaab attacks in the capital Mogadishu, weeks after twin car bombs killed at least 120 people.

In a statement, the Somali Ministry of Information urged residents in the capital to raise vigilance against possible militant attacks and stay away from hotels, restaurants and other crowded areas.

The government called on the public to report suspicious activities to the security forces during ongoing military operations against the Al-Qaeda-linked militants in the central regions of Hiran and Galgadud.

Troops have been deployed in large numbers across the main roads in the city on Saturday in an effort to beef up security.
