MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud met Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al Sudani on Friday in Baghdad ahead of the 34th Arab League Summit.

While neither side disclosed the specific content of the talks, the meeting reflects a marked uptick in bilateral engagement, with Somali delegations making several high-level visits to Iraq in recent months.

The visit comes as Mogadishu seeks to broaden its diplomatic and economic partnerships across the Arab world, while Baghdad has positioned itself as a key interlocutor in fostering intra-Arab cooperation.

President Mohamud is expected to participate in discussions at the summit focused on security, economic integration, and collective Arab responses to emerging geopolitical challenges.

The Arab League Summit brings together heads of state from across the Arab world to deliberate on a wide range of pressing issues, including conflicts in Gaza and Sudan, food security, and economic development.
