Somalia, Germany to cooperate on deportation of migrants

Somalia

BERLIN (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has struck an agreement with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to facilitate the deportation of undocumented Somali migrants, as the conflict that forced their exodus persists, intensifying across the country with no signs of abating from south to north, DPA international reported on Tuesday.

After meeting with Mohamud, Scholz said that Somali migrants without the legal right to stay in Germany “will be repatriated quickly and efficiently.”

“This is also in the interest of the very large community of Somalis here in Germany, who are doing well and are well integrated,” the chancellor said.

A total of 65,000 Somalis currently reside in Germany, with Chancellor Olaf Scholz noting that only a “small number” lack the legal right to remain in the country.
