HARGEISA (Somaliguardian) – The leader of Somaliland’s Waddani opposition party Abdirahman Irro alleged that foreign hands are fueling tensions in the restive town of Lasanod where the break-away region’s troops and clan militias continue to hold rival positions amid fear of fresh confrontation.
Irro said it is the responsibility of Somaliland government to stabilize the region and restore security in the city following weeks of deadly protests and violence that have left more than a dozen people dead.
On Wednesday, Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud repeated call for calm and restraint in Lasanod, urging the disputing sides to end their differences through dialogue.
